Passport and visa information

An identity card is sufficient for participants from EU-member countries.

All other participants need a valid passport to enter Spain. Visas may be required for participants from some countries. For specific information, please contact the nearest Spanish Embassy at least 6 weeks prior to the departure.

To request an invitation letter for visa application, please contact the Secretariat.

The organisers will not be able to contact or intervene with any Spanish Embassy or Consulate office abroad on your behalf. This procedure is intended to assist participants who need to obtain a visa, and is not an official invitation. It doesn´t cover fees or expenses from the Conference. The organisers are not to be held responsible for the outcome of the visa application.



Insurance

The organisers will not accept liability for individual medical, travel or personal insurance. It is highly recommended that all participants carry proper health and travel insurance.


Smoking policy

According to the Spanish law, smoking is forbidden in all public buildings, except in the authorized equipped areas.


Local time

The local standard time zone in Spain is GMT  +1 hour.


Climate

Oviedo and Santiago de Compostela experience a pleasant oceanic climate for most of the year, with temperate winters and mild summers. Most of the rain falls in winter, with variable amounts in spring and autumn.
The annual mean temperature is around 13-15ºC


Currency

The legal currency is the euro. Traveller\\\'s checks, dollars  and other currencies can be exchanged in all the banks or euros can be withdrawn from ATMs using a credit card.

All major credit cards (VISA, American Express, Diners Club and Master Card) are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants. It´s advisable to carry an identity card or some form of photo identification.
Banks are open from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM Monday to Friday.



Shopping

Spain\\\'s extensive business hours range, from Monday to Saturday, from 9.30 or 10 am to 8 or 9 pm, with a two- or three-hour lunch break. Some Shopping Centres and Department Stores  do not close at midday.
Tax Free Shopping.


Non-European Union residents are entitled to a VAT (valued-added tax) refund for each purchase above 90 euros. This refund can be obtained in shops with a “Tax-Free Shopping” sign.


Restaurants

The city´s bars and cafeterias serve breakfast from very early on, and serve “tapas” and aperitifs during the morning. Lunchtime normally ranges from 1 to 3 pm. People usually have dinner after 8pm.


Tips

Unless they´re not mandatory, they´ve fine accepted. The amount depends on the customer and service.

The normal electricity supply is 220 volts
